Hector Geffner to join as third Alexander von Humboldt professor the AI Center
Starting January 1, 2023, Hector Geffner will strengthen the Department of Computer Science and the AI Center with his expertise in automated planning and machine learning.
Hector Geffner is one of the leading AI researchers and a pioneer in automated planning. Together with Wil van der Aalst and Holger Hoos, Hector Geffner is now the third member of the AI Center receiving Alexander von Humboldt professorship, which is the most highly-endowed research award in Germany.
Geffner's research significantly advanced the field of automated planning, not least through establishing the heuristic search which has become an accepted standard. He is the recipient of an ERC Advance Grant, Fellow of the American and the European Association for Artificial Intelligence, and a Wallenberg Guest Professor in AI at Linköping University, Sweden.
Coming from the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA), Hector Geffner will join the Department of Computer Science at RWTH and expand the AI research field of the AI Center.
