What does it take to give a human-like consciousness to a machine? The programmer Syz is deeply fascinated by this question. Like every other programmer in his world, he invests all his time into building DAVE, the artificial intelligence that is humanity's last chance to save itself. But when he is able to take a look behind the scenes, his almost religious belief in the power of technology is shaken: What is the real intention behind DAVE, and who will profit once he is finished?

Raphaela Edelbauer, born in Vienna, studied language and creative writing at the Vienna University of Applied Art. She has been award the Theodor-Körner-Preis, the audience award at the Bachmann Competition and the promotion price by the Doppelfeld Foundation.
