AI Center members top 50 ranking among Germany's scientist
Research.com, a leading academic research platform, published the new ranking for 2023. 12 of AI Center members are ranked top 50 scientist in their chosen field.
Wil van der Aalst ranked 1st in Computer Science in Germany with 118 010 citation, 1038 publications, and a D-index of 157. Viewed on an global level, Wil was ranked 10th.
“I’m very happy with the ranking showing that the RWTH Center for Artificial Intelligence has a very strong position in the German research landscape and is globally leading in several areas, including my own field of process mining, where we combine process science, data science, and machine learning." says Wil van der Aalst who is one of the board directors of the AI Center. "The ranking does not yet include the new Alexander von Humboldt professors Holger Hoos and Hector Geffner that joined the Board of Directors over the past year. Hence, it is fair to say that we have a unique concentration of top researchers covering the whole of AI.”
Herman Ney also made it in the top 10 and ranked 9th with 55 957 citations, 934 publications and a D-index of 108. Moreover, 5 additional AI Center members made it in the top 50 of best computer scientists in Germany: Stefan Decker 32, Leif Kobbelt 36, Bastian Leibe 39, and Joost-Peter Katoen 50. This is an impressive number of 7 AI Center members in this category (only top 50 considered).
Holger Hoos, member of the board of directors of the AI Center, is still associated with his previous institution in the ranking list, as he joined the RWTH Aachen only in the last year. He is currently listed as 8th among the best computer scientists in the Netherlands. Considering his D-index and the number of citations, Holger Hoos would rank 30th in Germany.
The ranking for the field of Computer Science is based on data from multiple bibliometric data sources where 14402 scientists were considered. The approval criteria is based on the D-index (Discipline H-Index), as well as awards and achievements of the scholar in this particular field. Research.com platform claims to be unique as it's measuring the influence and contributions of researchers, and hence the reputation of the academics
Other members from the AI Center were ranked in the top 50 of their respective fields: Frank Piller was ranked 16th in the list of best scientist in Business & Management; Antonello Monti 33rd and Max Lemme 40th among the best scientists in Electronics and Electrical Engineering; Rainer Waser 12th and Matthias Wuttig 42nd in the list of best scientist in Material Science and Wolfgang Schroeder 26 th among the best scientist in Mechanical & Aerospace engineering.
At the university level, the RWTH Aachen University ranked 2nd among best Computer Science universities in Germany.
