AI Center
Vision
The goal of the RWTH Center for Artificial Intelligence is to strengthen and focus AI research at RWTH Aachen University.
Driven/supported mainly by the management, a noticeable presence and participation of the AI Center in political, scientific and social discussion forums and decision-making bodies are to be established. In the medium term, the AI Center aims at establishing RWTH as one of the leading university locations for AI in Germany, with worldwide visibility.
Methodological Competence and Applications
The main goal is to conduct research on AI methods at the highest international level. By bundling the already existing competences and further strengthening specific areas, synergies are created which allow a comprehensive coverage of the entire AI spectrum.
The close integration of application disciplines enables a clear methodological push into these applications and promotes the application-specific development of methods and algorithms. The focus is on selected RWTH-specific application areas, primarily from the engineering and life sciences. Examples are "Smart Manufacturing", "Next Generation Computing", and "AI for Biomedical Applications".
Network
Both within the RWTH and for industrial partners, the AI Center serves as a contact point and competence center for topics in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Suitable project partners can be put in contact with each other and thus projects can be initiated more easily and more promisingly. Herein, both the bundling of methodological competence and the close integration with the application disciplines strengthens the RWTH's power in terms of third-party funding of AI initiatives, especially in large coordinated programs. The AI Center also coordinates the cooperation with non-university research institutes, such as Fraunhofer FIT and FKIE and the FZ Jülich.
